The Uptown Apartments received LEED Silver certification by the United States Green Building Council, according to Cascadia Development Partners.

The building at 1700 Main Street is at the site of the former Holland Creamery, a downtown Vancouver landmark. The building design preserved original architectural elements while transforming the property into an urban apartment community, Cascadia says in a news release.

“As the first LEED certified multifamily project in Clark County, our residents will enjoy numerous benefits associated with living in an eco-friendly community,” Cascadia president David Copenhaver says in the release.

The smoke-free community applied responsible construction practices and utilized local contractors. Designed with sustainable products, The Uptown includes an energy efficient heating and cooling system, low VOC materials, LED lighting and water saving fixtures.

The landscape incorporates the use of native plants, an efficient drip-irrigation system and non-toxic pest control.

To achieve LEED certification, the community had to meet high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection and indoor environmental air quality.
